Dermot Weld Champion Trainer Chanelle Veterinary Leading Trainer Award Dermot Weld took home the Chanelle Veterinary Leading Trainer Plate, Animec Paste and a cheque for €3,800 for the 23rd time on the final day of the Galway Races 2009. The runner-up prize was a very close thing with both Mrs John Harrington and Willie Mullins both on 26 points each, Willie took the title with 3 second places during the week compared to Jessica’s 2 second places. The Leading Trainer award is presented to the Trainer with the most points accumulated over the 7 days of the summer festival. Trainers receive 5 points for a win, 3 points for second and 1 point for third.
